One thing you can always count on from Steve.....only the best will do!! BTW to all who have been trying to get ahold of him, it is just taking him a little time to bet his site up and running. After all, he has more guitar sets than I have ever seen in one place and lots of pictures to take. He is taking phone orders and hopes to have his new site up and running by this friday.

Viv, This carpathian reminds me of the Italian you brought us back from your trip. I just joined one of the carpathian tops for my next guitar....I cant wait to hear how this stuff sounds. By the way Steve also has carp brace wood and I am matching it to my top, I like the looks of this stuff and will comment on what I think when the guitar is finished. The brace wood is very light and I think it will make nice bracing. Matt |

Matt, My impression of the Carpathian tops tap tone, is similar to the LS redwood tops I have, the tap tone is strong, focused, with a slow decay and very fundemental, where as a sitka tap tone is all over the place with lots of overtones. Now how this relates to the finished product, i'm waiting to see. I'm building a 12 fret dreadnought out of it. Lance |

I've never had any LS Redwood in-hand, but that description of 'tap' is pretty much what I'd describe the Italian I've got as. Strong, clear fundamental, long ring. That's at an unfinished thickness, mind. It opens up and gets more 'mixed' as it's thinned down. Mind, I've also never had a piece of Sitka to tap, odd as that might seem. Top grade Italian's just cheaper to get at over here ;-) |
